What Am I Baking Today?
Sourdough Blueberry Scones with Vanilla Lemon Drizzle
Today at Kingdom Bread Company, I switched things up from the usual sourdough loaves and put that starter to work in something a little sweeter: Sourdough Blueberry Scones with Vanilla Lemon Drizzle.
And these might need to make another appearance soon.
There’s something about a good scone that hits the perfect middle ground between breakfast and dessert. These came out tender and buttery on the inside, lightly crisp around the edges, and packed with blueberries in every bite.
Of course, I couldn’t leave them there.
The Finishing Touch
Once the scones cooled, I drizzled them with a simple vanilla lemon glaze. The sweetness of the vanilla paired with the brightness of fresh lemon was exactly what the blueberries needed.
Sweet. Tart. Buttery. And just enough sourdough character in the background.
Why Sourdough?
One of my favorite parts about keeping a sourdough starter is realizing just how much you can make with it beyond a traditional loaf of bread.
Scones are a great way to put sourdough discard to work instead of throwing it away. It adds another layer of flavor while giving that starter one more purpose in the kitchen.
And honestly, finding new ways to use sourdough is half the fun.
Fresh From the Kingdom Bread Kitchen
These blueberry scones were one of those bakes where the kitchen smelled incredible long before the drizzle ever went on.
A warm scone, bursting with blueberries, topped with vanilla lemon drizzle and paired with a fresh cup of coffee?
That’s a pretty good morning.
Maybe these need to find their way into a future Kingdom Bread Company bread drop.
Until the next bake—
Pray. Hustle. Stay Humble.
